Exposition Virtuelle

"Que c’est beau et bon, les forts hivers, chez nous ! La gelée, pénétrant la grosse terre, transformée en roc, et qui peut enfin dormir. L’ornement de la neige ! un ornement qui ne soit pas le fruit d’un rude travail de germination, mais une beauté gratuite et généreuse."

Cet hiver il n’y a pas eu de neige, alors le monde a continué à tourner.
Et puis elle est venue, sous une forme inattendue.
Elle a créé ce temps suspendu.
Les couleurs, le moindre bruit, tout tourne au ralenti.
L’hiver, le temps d’une pause, de plonger au fond de soi,
pour voir ce qui attend là de pouvoir germer.
Tout s’est arrêté.
Dehors le vide résonne. Dedans la vie attend.
Il neige.

Cette exposition devait avoir lieu dans un espace physique, quelque part à Bruxelles. Mais dans les circonstances de pandémie et de confinement, il a fallu s’adapter, et c’est pourquoi elle s’est transformée en une exposition virtuelle. Une exposition sur la neige, symbole de l’hiver, moment de suspension où la vie, si elle ne s’arrête pas tout à fait, tourne en tous cas au ralenti. Au moment où devait avoir lieu cette exposition, peu après l’équinoxe du printemps, on n’attend généralement plus de neige. Cet hiver, je n’en ai pas vu. Sans neige, presque sans gel, peut-on vraiment considérer qu’hiver il y a ? La neige fuit à cause du réchauffement climatique. Mais peut-être cette fuite fait elle écho à l’incapacité de notre société de permettre aux gens de s’arrêter. Pris dans le système, nous courrons sans cesse, et de plus en plus nombreux sont les individus qui s’écroulent, de n’avoir pu depuis si longtemps respecter ce temps de repos nécessaire. Comme en miroir, la nature elle non plus, n’est pas en capacité de se reposer. Aujourd’hui, alors que nous sommes en confinement pour empêcher le virus de se propager encore, on prend conscience du temps, et peut-être ce repos était-il nécessaire.

Virtual Exhibition

This winter there haven't been snow, but then the world still went on.
And then it came, in an unexpected form.
It created a hanging time.
The colors, the smallest of noises, everything went at a slower pace.
The winter, during a break, diving inside oneself,
to see what is waiting there to sprout.
Everything has stopped.
Outside the void reverberates. Inside life awaints.
It's snowing.

This exhibition should have happened in a physical place, somewhere in Brussels. But with the circumstances of pandemic and containment, we had to adapt, and that's why it transformed in a virtual exhibition. An exhibition about snow, symbol of winter, a time of abeyance where life, if it doesn't fully stop, goes more slowly. When this exhibition should have happenen, near the spring equinox, when we don't expect snow anymore. This winter, I didn't see any. Without snow, nor much frost, can we truly consider that winter there is ? The snow is fleeing from the global warming. But maybe this fleeing echoes the incapacity for our society to allow people to stop. Taken in by the system, we run without a halt, and more and more fall exhausted, for not being allowed for so long to have that necessary rest. Like a mirror, nature neither, has the ability to rest. Today, as we quarantine against the virus, we become aware of time, and maybe this rest was required.
